Stabilizer Tip:
When hooping lightweight stabilizers it is helpful in keeping them
taught to insert a non-slip layer around the edges. Pfaff has a product
called hoop magic that works very well or you can also use a non-slip
shelf liner cut into strips.
Thread Tips:
When re-threading your machine, always
cut the thread at the spool, and pull the cut end down through the
needle. That portion of your thread has been up and down through the
mechanism nearly 100 times and could have shreds that will lodge in your
tensions.
Use only high quality threads - the
money you save on inexpensive, low quality threads for sewing, serging
or embroidery will result in poor stitch quality in addition to many
unnecessary dollars being spent on cleaning and repairs.
Needle Tip:
When using many different types of needles, embroidery, quilting,
stretch, etc., it is often difficult to tell one from another. So color
code your needles with nail polish. Paint the ends a different color for
each type - green for embroidery, red for quilting, etc. You will never
have to fret again!
Pillow Coverings:
For great-looking results when covering
pillow inserts and furniture cushions, compare the dimensions of the
pattern and the form to be covered. If the pattern dimensions are larger
than the form dimensions, consider making the pattern smaller. This is
because pillows and cushions look better if the fit is quite snug. For
example, a pillow should completely fill the covering so it looks nice
and plump. When making a covering for a foam cushion, a tight fit will
mean it's a little harder to get the cushion in the covering - but once
it's on, it'll look terrific
